IBM and Japan Launch Quantum-Supercomputer Hybrid in Groundbreaking Collaboration
IBM and Japan's RIKEN institute have deployed the first IBM Quantum System Two outside the U.S., physically integrating it with the Fugaku supercomputer—one of the world's most powerful classical systems. This hybrid setup marks a pivotal step in Japan's national quantum-supercomputing initiative.
The Heron processor powers the new quantum system, delivering a tenfold improvement in speed and accuracy over its predecessor. With 156 qubits and a 250,000 CLOPS processing rate, it tackles problems beyond classical computers' reach. The direct coupling with Fugaku enables novel hybrid computing methodologies.
